1653 Spanish Colonial Silver 8 Reales Cob. Beginning in 1652, an attempt to restore the quality of cob coins involved a fundamental design change for issues of the Viceroyalty of Peru: the pillars and waves type replaced the older shield design. At the moment, paper work cannot be found, but owner did have and says it came from the 1654 shipwreck of the Capitana.Most likely this coin never went into circulation, minted in 1653 than went down in the shipwreck of 1654.
