For your consideration are 54 silver 8,4,2, and 1 reales from the Colonial Spanish Empire. These coins were all recovered from one shipwreck at the mouth of the Tagus river in Portugal. The dates of the coins indicate the wreck likely occurred in 1675 or 1676.

The iron latch on the front closes snugly and holds the lid firmly in place, however there is no locking mechanism. This box likely was used to hold valuables such as these 8 reales! Neither the gold coin nor any of the gold chains are included with this lot. Indicated in the photos below are the weights and details of each coin. For a minority of the dated coins, the date was extrapolated from fragments of numbers, and are subject to minor errors.
